Description
A charming Victorian propelling pencil crafted in warm 8ct rose gold, showcasing a beautifully engraved faceted barrel decorated with hand-cut foliate motifs. The pencil is enhanced with contrasting yellow gold collars, including an ornate floral engraved slider which operates the propelling mechanism, while a suspension loop beneath the terminal allowed it to be worn from a gentleman’s watch chain or chatelaine.
The decorative terminal is richly embossed with scrolling repoussé detail and finished with an oval mixed-cut amethyst, bezel set within a finely decorated mount. The vibrant purple gemstone provides an elegant focal point, complementing the warm tones of the gold and adding a refined touch to this practical Victorian accessory.
The propelling mechanism remains functional, although the original lead has been worn down and will require replacing before use. Combining decorative craftsmanship with everyday utility, this finely detailed antique propelling pencil is a wonderful example of Victorian ingenuity and design, equally suited to a writing collection or as a distinctive wearable antique accessory.
