Description
An unusual Victorian 9ct gold circular picture locket featuring sepia portraits of Queen Victoria and Robert Baden-Powell beneath a domed cover. Hallmarked 1899, it was made during the height of the Second Boer War, when Baden-Powell became a national hero following his defence of Mafeking.
Produced as a patriotic commemorative piece, it reflects the widespread admiration for both the celebrated soldier and the reigning monarch at the close of the Victorian era. Finished with a polished gold frame and suspension loop, it is a fascinating piece of British military and royal history.
